W. R. Berkley Gains from Argentine Inflation-Linked Bonds

W. R. Berkley Corporation (WRB) has provided an update.

The Company has a significant stake in the Argentine financial market, with a total investment in bonds worth $294.9 million, including a hefty portion in inflation-linked securities. The adjustment in Argentina’s inflation rate by the government in 2023 led to a considerable gain in pre-tax net investment income, reaching $96.2 million for the first quarter of 2024. While estimates suggest a potential income of $45-$65 million for the next quarter, predicting future returns is challenging due to the volatility of Argentine inflation rates. Notably, the Company is actively managing its portfolio, having reinvested proceeds from matured securities.
