Will the Nintendo Switch 2 Support Amiibo?

Story Highlights

A new Nintendo Switch 2 leak has gamers and investors discussing Amiibo support for the hybrid console.

Will the Nintendo Switch 2 Support Amiibo?

Gamers and investors continue to wait for more information about Nintendo’s (NTDOF) Switch 2 game console. Until then, they must rely on leaks to learn more about the upcoming device. The latest of these claims a feature present in the last two Nintendo consoles will return for the Switch 2.

According to these leaks, the Nintendo Switch 2 will continue to support near-field communication (NFC) technology. This same tech is used for Amiibo, the statues of video game characters and objects that can unlock special features and items in games. This leak suggests that Nintendo will continue to support Amiibo on the Switch 2.

Nintendo still supporting Amiibo makes sense as the Switch 2 is backward compatible with original Switch games. Many of those have Amiibo support, meaning Nintendo would have to keep the feature around for full compatibility with those titles. It also allows the game developer to release new Amiibo alongside Switch 2 games, generating extra revenue from their sales.

When Will Investors Learn More About the Switch 2?

Nintendo plans to hold a special Direct presentation focused on the Switch 2 next month. It will take place on April 2 at 9:00 a.m. ET and should provide plenty of details about the upcoming hybrid console. Key points of interest that investors and gamers are waiting for are the price of the console and when it will be released, with Nintendo already confirming a 2025 window.

Is NTDOF Stock a Buy, Sell, or Hold?

Turning to Wall Street, the analysts’ consensus rating for Nintendo is Moderate Buy, based on five Buy, two Hold, and one Sell ratings over the last three months. With that comes an average price target of $79.57, a high of $104.41, and a low of $52.07. This represents a potential 12.02% upside for NTDOF stock.
