YouTube (GOOGL) is in talks with Sony (SONY), Warner (WMG), and Universal (UMGNF) to license their songs for an AI music generation tool that mimics popular singers, The Financial Times’ Anna Nicolaou and Madhumita Murgia report. The Google-owned video site needs labels’ content to legally train AI song generators, as it prepares to launch new tools this year, according to three people familiar with the matter.According to the people, YouTube recently offered lump sums to the major labels to try to convince more artists to allow their music to be used in training AI software, but many artists remain fiercely opposed to AI music generation.
