Waste Management will shed 1,000 jobs this year as part of the company’s goal to cut $450M in costs, reported The Wall Street Journal’s Sabela Ojea. WM (WM) Chief Executive Jim Fish said the waste-and-recycling business will eliminate about 650 trucking positions by modernizing its fleet and 350 by upgrading its recycling plants in 2025, noting that instead of directly laying off workers, the company will pass on filling vacated positions. “Reducing our costs by choosing not to replace certain positions through the use of technology has impacted our results in a good way, and we’ll continue through that path,” Fish is quoted as having said.
