White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt stated in a briefing that after having spoken with the “big three” automakers, the Trump administration is going to give a one-month exemption on any autos coming through USMCA, adding that reciprocal tariffs will still go into effect on April 2. The exemption is being given for one month so the companies are not at an economic disadvantage, Leavitt said. Publicly traded automakers include Ford (F), General Motors (GM), Honda (HMC), Mercedes-Benz (MBGYY), Nissan (NSANY), Stellantis (STLA), Tesla (TSLA), Toyota (TM) and Volkswagen (VWAGY).
