Video game sales rise 7% year-over-year in Europe in August, GI.biz says

11.8M console and PC video games were purchased across Europe last month, an increase of 7% year-over-year, Gamesindustry.biz’s Christopher Dring reports, citing data from GSD. The rise in sales in August was due to discounts and promotions around legacy titles, such as Take-Two’s (TTWO) “Grand Theft Auto V,” which ended the month in the top spot, Dring says, noting that Ubisoft’s (UBSFY) “Star Wars Outlaws” was the second-best seller in its debut month. Despite falling in second place, it was a disappointing launch for “Outlaws,” which first week sales less than half of what EA‘s (EA) “Star Wars Jedi: Survivor” did in 2023, Dring says. Other top-selling games in Europe in August, according to GSD, were Warner Bros. Discovery’s (WBD) “Hogwarts Legacy,” Deep Silver’s “Kingdom Come: Deliverance,” EA’s “EA Sports FC 24,” and Take-Two’s “Red Dead Redemption 2.”
