The Biden administration has cut off China’s most advanced factory from more American imports after it produced a chip for Huawei’s Mate 60 Pro phone, Alexandra Alper and Karen Freifeld of Reuters reports, citing three people familiar with the matter. Last year, the Commerce Department sent dozens of letters to U.S. suppliers of Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corp suspending permission to sell to its most advanced plant, two people told Reuters. While many companies have stopped selling to SMIC South, letters halted millions of dollars worth of shipments of chipmaking materials and parts from at least one supplier, Entegris (ENTG), one source said. Reuters found no evidence Entegris violated any U.S. law or regulation. Publicly traded companies in the space include Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), Intel (INTC), Qualcomm (QCOM), NVIDIA (NVDA), Marvel (MRVL), Texas Instruments (TXN), Micron (MU), Microchip (MCHP).
