Starbucks workers disrupted operations at dozens of cafes this weekend and pledged to keep striking, citing concerns that include display of Pride decorations in stores and negotiations between unionized baristas and the coffee giant, The Wall Street Journal’s Heather Haddon reports. The company said it closed 21 stores early since Friday because of staffing shortages caused by the strikes. As of Sunday, 104 U.S. locations had staff participating in the strikes, in most cases limiting service to customers. Starbucks owns and operates around 9,380 U.S. stores. Earlier this month, Starbucks Workers United accused the company of limiting the ability for workers to hang Pride decorations in stores. Managers told baristas that they didn’t have enough work time to decorate, that it was a safety concern given some recent backlash against brands highlighting Pride, or that decorations didn’t align with guidelines for store environments, according to the union.
