South Korean will inspect all Boeing 737-800 aircrafts following crash, FT says

Following a crash on Sunday that killed all but two of the 181 people on board, South Korea plans to inspect all B737-800 Boeing (BA) aircraft operated by domestic airlines, Song Jung-a of The Financial Times reports. Investigators are probing why the twin-engine Boeing 737-800 operated by Jeju Air failed to deploy its landing gear, resulting in the jet skidding down the runway before striking a wall and bursting into flames at Muan international airport. On Monday morning, another B737-800 aircraft operated by Jeju returned to Gimpo domestic airport due to a warning message about its landing gear, which was later found to be working well, Jeju Air said according to the Times. “We are looking to first conduct a special safety inspection of B737-800 Boeing aircraft in operation,” an official at the transport ministry said, according to the Times. “We will check their operating ratios and if airlines are abiding by safety rules including regular maintenance before and after flights.”
