Rio Tinto (RIO) and Glencore (GLNCY) have been discussing combining their businesses, Thomas Biesheuvel, Dinesh Nair and Archie Hunter of Bloomberg report, citing people familiar with the matter. The companies have recently held early-stage talks about a deal, but it is unclear whether the talks are still live, sources told Bloomberg. A merger could result in the mining industry’s largest-ever deal, Bloomberg adds. Shares of Rio Tinto are down 1% to $59.74 in afternoon trading.
