NBC ‘in driver’s seat’ to capture NBA media rights, SBJ reports

Comcast’s (CMCSA) NBCUniversal is “in the driver’s seat” to capture a package of NBA games with an annual bid of $2.5B, besting a potential bid from Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) for those rights, which the TNT parent has held for many years, Sports Business Journal’s Tom Friend reports, citing sources. There may be little Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav can do to overtake the NBC bid unless he offers as much as $2.8B to overpay for the package, or potentially take the Association to court, Friend says, citing the same sources.
