Meet Clean Energy Technologies: Fly exclusive interview with CEO Kam Mahdi

In an exclusive interview with The Fly, Clean Energy Technologies (CETY) CEO Kam Mahdi talked about the company, its products, its NG business in China, upcoming milestones and much more.

LARGER VISION FOR THE COMPANY: Clean Energy Technologies is a clean energy manufacturing and services company, offering recyclable energy solutions, clean energy fuels, and alternative electric power for small and mid-sized projects in North America, Europe, and Asia. The company’s principal products are Waste Heat Recovery Solutions using its patented Clean Cycle generator to create electricity; Waste to Energy Solutions converting waste products created in manufacturing, agriculture, wastewater treatment plants and other industries to electricity and BioChar; and Engineering, Consulting and Project Management Solutions. Clean Energy’s NG trading operations in China sources and supplies natural gas to industries and municipalities located in China.

“We started this journey through the acquisition of General Electric’s (GE) Heat Recovery Solutions business. Since the beginning, the vision for the business was larger… to achieve a low carbon future. We offer eco-friendly green energy solutions, clean energy fuel, and alternative electric power for small and midsize projects in North America, Europe and Asia,” CEO Kam Mahdi explained to The Fly.

CHINA NG OPERATIONS: Clean Energy Technologies announced earlier this year that its wholly owned subsidiary Jiangsu Huanya Jieneng New Energy Co. had received certification to access the China Natural Gas Pipeline Network Group. Clean Energy Technologies becomes eligible to use the natural gas storage and transportation infrastructure of the NGPNG that spans the entire territory of China. This also allows the company to access international imports of natural gas and sell through the NGPNG network.

“We saw an opportunity with the shift from coal to natural gas in China. The first opportunity came from the acquisition of a natural gas trading company and now we’re making further investments into natural gas pipeline companies to be able to receive allocation for gas — you need to have your own gas lines and gas pipelines and compressor stations to be able to get that allocation to expand. But the ultimate goal behind this strategy is to establish marketplace and cross sell our products and solutions to sell to the end user,” the executive said.

CONTINUED GROWTH: Looking out over the remainder of the year, CEO Madhi is “optimistic about continued growth.” “We have introduced a new technology that involves conversion of waste to energy, being launched in Vermont… Because of the incentives introduced with the IRA, we’re also seeing a lot of traction and opportunities that have opened up for our Waste to Heat Recovery system, which was recognized as a renewable energy. So, the same incentives that were offered to wind and solar were extended to Waste to Heat Recovery solutions. We’re also supporting Fortune 500 companies with onsite assessment to help them meet their sustainability goals.”

CHINA GROWTH COMING: Discussing with The Fly the early China growth that is coming, Clean Energy Technologies’ CEO noted that “China has been an opportunistic investment for us and we will see faster growth coming from there because of the nature of the business.” The company expects to be recognizing revenue towards the latter part of the year. “But maybe the market expects those revenues to be recognized earlier. The timing of that revenue recognition could be spread out or be pushed out to the end of the year,” the executive added.
