Marriot International is being sued by hotel guests over a daily fee at its Los Angeles-area hotels, where the company has an employee-protection surcharge, Suryatapa Bhattacharya of The Wall Street Journal reports. The lawsuit alleges the surcharge goes beyond what Marriott needs to comply with a new worker-protection law and overcharges guests. The lawsuit estimates one hotel would bring in about $3.6M a year from the surcharge, which gives the company an unfair advantage over its competitors, the lawsuit claims, according to the Journal.
