Major record labels, including UMG (UMGNF), Warner Music Group (WMG), and Sony (SONY), are suing Verizon (VZ) for more than $2.6B, alleging it violated copyright law by continuing to serve customers accused of pirating music, Rolling Stone’s Ethan Millman reports. “While Verizon is famous for its ‘Can you hear me now?’ advertising campaign, it has intentionally chosen not to listen to complaints from copyright owners,” the labels claim. The labels are seeking as much as $150,000 per infringement, and allege Verizon violated copyrights of more than 17,000 songs, Rolling Stone reports.
