A jury in Multnomah County Circuit Court has determined that PacifiCorp, which is owned by Berkshire Hathaway, is liable for causing four of the devastating Labor Day wildfires in 2020 that destroyed a combined 2,500 properties and upended countless lives in the Santiam Canyon, Lincoln City area and Southern Oregon, the Statesman Journal’s Zach Urness reports. The jury found the company negligent for causing fires in Santiam, Echo Mountain, 242 and South Obenchian following a seven-week trial for the class action lawsuit against the Oregon utility, the author notes.
