The FTC told a U.S. district judge that it is still determining who Amazon’s (AMZN) competitors are for its 2023 antitrust lawsuit and the list could include Walmart (WMT) and eBay (EBAY), Bloomberg’s Josh Sisco reported on Friday. Kenneth Merber, a lawyer for the FTC, said the FTC is still gathering and analyzing evidence, adding that “We don’t have a definitive answer but we are working on it.” The September 2023 lawsuit filed under former FTC Chair Lina Khan seeks to differentiate Amazon from retail competitors that generate most of their sales at physical stores or from more niche-oriented websites, with the FTC aruing that these online superstores are different because they offer convenience in their depth of inventory and round-the-clock accessibility.
