A consortium of more than 120 global companies including Ford (F) and Honda (HMC) has compiled draft standards on blockchain-based “battery passports” that will let users track each battery’s environmental and social footprints, Nikkei Asia’s Eiki Hayashi reports. The passports provide digital records of a battery’s supply chain, including the origin of the materials used, the percentage of recycled components, the amount of associated carbon dioxide emissions, and human rights protections, the report notes, adding that the Mobility Open Blockchain Initiative consortium will urge the European Commission and other authorities around the world to adopt its standards. Other consortium members include General Motors (GM), Nissan (NSANY), Stellantis (STLA) and BMW (BMWYY).
