‘Fallout 4’ leads U.K. April game sales while console sales drop, GI.biz says

Bethesda’s “Fallout 4,” which released originally in 2015, was “comfortably” the best-selling video game in the U.K. last month, Gamesindustry.biz’s Christopher Dring reports, citing data from GSD. Amid a quiet month for new game releases, “Fallout 4” was able to rise to the top of the U.K. charts following the success of the Amazon Prime (AMZN) television adaptation of the franchise, with 2010’s “Fallout: New Vegas” coming in eighth place on the charts, 2018’s “Fallout 76” coming in ninth, and 2008’s “Fallout 3” ending just outside the top ten in eleventh place, the author notes. Meanwhile, video game console sales fell 39% year-over-year in April, according to GfK panel data. Overall console sales have fallen nearly 30% year-to-date in the U.K., with Xbox Series (MSFT) console sales down just under 25% so far this year, PlayStation 5 (SONY) sales down just over 25%, and Nintendo Switch (NTDOY) sales down 38%, the author says. The Fly notes that Microsoft acquired Bethesda in 2021.
