DoorDash, Uber make tipping harder after New York wage mandate, Bloomberg says

New York’s new wage mandate for delivery drivers went into effect earlier this month, with workers now making at least $17.96, Natalie Lung and Ella Ceron of Bloomberg report. In response, Uber (UBER), DoorDash (DASH), and Grubhub have made changes to their apps that workers say will reduce their hours and could limit long-term potential earnings. The companies are increasing their fees and have moved the prompt for tipping on the app. Tipping previously accounted for as much as half of a drivers’ total weekly earnings, but for many, only accounted for 5%-15% over the last week, Bloomberg said, citing pay stubs of some drivers under the new model.
