Derailed Ohio train changed hands several times, owned by GATX, WSJ reports

The freight car that the NTSB says caused last month’s derailment in Ohio was handed off between four railroads before the trip and was owned by a fifth, GATX (GATX), The Wall Street Journal’s Esther Fung reports. The railcar, which was destroyed in on February 3 in East Palestine, Ohio, was built by Trinity Industries (TRN), the report notes, citing an industry database reviewed by The Journal. According to the report, Nofolk Southern (NSC) picked up the car in St. Louis and was moving the hopper car and others to Conway, Pennsylvania, when a wheel bearing overheated on the hopper and failed before the derailment in East Palestine.
