Coupang rebuts Korea’s decision to fine it for business practices, KT reports

Coupang is refuting a decision from Korea’s Fair Trade Commission to fine it $101M for business practices it claims are “deceiving customers” by fabricating its webpage’s recommendations algorithm, The Korea Times’ Jhoo Dong-chan reports. Coupang says the allegation is irrelevant, adding that it will file an administrative litigation against the decision. Korea’s FTC claims Coupang manipulated the customer recommendation algorithm on its webpage to promote the company’s private and partner brands as well as products delivered via its famous Rocket Delivery service for four and a half years since February 2019. Coupang, meanwhile, says the decision will eventually jeopardize consumers’ right to buy goods at cheaper prices.
