Compass Minerals appoints Patrick Merrin as COO and Peter Fjellman as CFO

Compass Minerals (CMP) appointed Patrick Merrin as new COO and Peter Fjellman as new CFO. Merrin’s appointment is effective March 3 and fills the COO position which has been open since June 2024. Fjellman, whose appointment is effective immediately, succeeds Jeff Cathey who has decided to depart Compass Minerals due to personal reasons. Cathey has agreed to serve the company in a consulting capacity for a period of three months to help ensure a smooth transition. Merrin He joins Compass Minerals from Lundin Mining, a diversified Canadian base metals miner, where he served as EVP of technical services. Fjellman most recently served as SVP of Finance, Americas and Asia Pacific for GXO Logistics, a spinoff of XPO Logistics. Prior to Lundin, Patrick Merrin was appointed CEO at Copper Mountain Mining. Previous roles include COO of mining at Washington Companies and SVP of Canadian operations at Newcrest Mining and Goldcorp. Prior to GXO Logistics, Fjellman’s roles included CFO, Americas for ABB, VP Finance, North America at Danaher and positions of increasing responsibility at Newell Rubbermaid Corporation.
