Cigna (CI) and Humana (HUM) are in talks regarding a potential stock-and-cash merger deal that “would create a new powerhouse in the health-insurance industry,” people familiar with the matter told The Wall Street Journal’s Lauren Thomas, Anna Wilde Mathews and Laura Cooper. A combination of the managed-care providers could be finalized by the end of the year, assuming the talks don’t fall apart, the report added.
