China to push policy boosting RISC-V chip use nationwide, Reuters reports

In the country’s efforts to dissuade any dependence on “Western-owned technology,” China is encouraging the use of RISC-V technology, which is used in the design of “anything from smartphone chips to advanced processors for AI,” Che Pan and Brenda Goh wrote for Reuters, citing sources briefed on the matter. RISC-V technology is a competitor of x86 technology, implimented by by U.S. chip makers like Intel (INTC), Advanced Micro Devices (AMD (AMD) ), and Arm, developed by SoftBank Group-owned Arm Holdings (ARM), noted the story…”The policy guidance on boosting the use of RISC-V chips could be released as soon as this month, although the final date could change,” added the Reuters’ story.
