Disney’s (DIS) “Mufasa: The Lion King” won the weekend at the North American office with another $23.8M for a domestic tally of $168.6M. Overseas, the movie earned another $53.3M for a global cume of $476.4M, making it the 10th top-grossing title of 2024.
BOX OFFICE RUNNER-UPS: Paramount’s (PARA) “Sonic the Hedgehog 3” placed number 2 with $21.2M for a domestic tally of $187.5M and as it crossed the $1B mark in worldwide tickets sold. Behind it was Focus Features’ “Nosferatu” with another $13.2M for a domestic total of $69.4M. Disney’s “Moana 2” placed number 4 as it earned $12.4M in its sixth outing. Rounding out the top five, Comcast (CMCSA) subsidiary Universal’s “Wicked” grossed an estimated $10.2M for a domestic cume of $450.7M.
