“Box Office Battle” is The Fly’s weekly roundup of what movies topped the weekend’s box office.
Disney (DIS) and Marvel’s “Deadpool & Wolverine” stayed atop the North American box office with $54.2M in its third weekend as it crossed the $1B mark globally. The movie ended Sunday with a domestic cume of $494.3M and $535.2M overseas for a worldwide tally of $1.03B. The threequel has a 97% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, the second-best score ever for a Marvel title behind Sony (SONY) and Marvel’s “Spider-Man: No Way Home.”
BOX OFFICE RUNNER-UPS: Sony’s “It Ends With Ends” starring and produced by Blake Lively opened at number 2 with $50M, which was way better than expected. Behind it was Comcast (CMCSA) subsidiary Universal’s “Twisters” with another $15M. Lionsgate’s (LGF.B) “Borderlands” placed number 4 with an estimated $8.8M debut. Rounding out the top five, Universal’s “Despicable Me 4” grossed $8M from 3,009 locations.
