The Biden administration will propose that Medicare and Medicaid cover obesity medications, a proposal that would extend the access of the drugs to millions of Americans, Margot Sanger-Katz of The New York Times reports. The new proposal sidesteps a restriction passed 20 years ago that prevents Medicare from covering drugs for “weight loss,” specifying the drugs would cover to treat obesity and prevent its related conditions. The drugs covered would include Wegovy from Novo Nordisk (NVO) and Zepbound from Eli Lilly (LLY).
