Apple (AAPL) plans to bring satellite connections to its smartwatch in 2025 relying on satellites from Globalstar (GSAT), which has expanded its partnership with the iPhone maker over the past few years, reported Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman. In November, Apple invested about $1.5B in GlobalStar to beef up the infrastructure, the report noted. The satellite capability is slated to come to next year’s top-of-the-line Apple Watch Ultra model and will let smartwatch users send off-the-grid text messages when they don’t have a cellular or Wi-Fi connection, the report said, citing sources. In addition, Apple is ramping up work on a blood-pressure feature, the report added.
