Apple (AAPL) is in talks with Tencent (TCEHY) and ByteDance about integrating their AI models into iPhones sold in China, Laim Mo and Brenda Goh of Reuters reports, citing three sources familiar with the matter. Apple started the rollout of OpenAI’s ChatGPT onto its devices this month. ChatGPT is not available in China and the country’s regulatory requirements that generative AI services must obtain government approval before public release has pushed Apple to seek local partners for its AI features.
