Over a period of 24 hours, a recent study found approximately 200 apps on Apple’s (AAPL) App Store that were rated for children that included inappropriate content, including dieting, circumventing banned sites, beauty filters, violent or sexual games, and anonymous chat, Aaron Tilley of The Wall Street Journal reports. The 200 apps were a quarter of the total reviewed by the group in 24-hours and the findings suggest many apps with objectionable content for children have been rated as safe. While Apple leaves it to app developers to determine the appropriate age rating for their apps, the company said it reviews and rejects apps often for including features that don’t align with the rating. Some suggest Apple should apply an independent expert review and verification process for the age ratings of App Store apps.
