By the end of the year, Amazon will allow you to be able to scan the palm of your hand at any Whole Foods store in the U.S. and join a service called Amazon One (AMZN), Christopher Mims of The Wall Street Journal report. One enrolled, all you’ll need to pay is your hand, which will work at Amazon Fresh stores, some Panera restaurants, some retailers at airports, some stadiums and concert venues, and a handful of Starbucks (SBUX) locations. At these locations, you can use your palm to enter a venue, identify yourself as a loyalty program member, or verify your age at a bar. Amazon’s expansion into biometric technology is an effort to compete with Google (GOOG;GOOGL) and Apple (AAPL).
