Amazon stumbles in efforts to compete in bricks-and-mortar world, WSJ reports

Amazon’s Go convenience stores, launched in 2018, have struggled to gain traction, and the company has closed about half its locations since early 2023, The Wall Street Journal’s Kate King reports. Amazon’s other physical-store ventures, including bookstores and fashion outlets, have also faced challenges, leading to closures in recent years, King writes. The company’s focus has shifted to licensing its “Just Walk Out” technology to other retailers, while its grocery portfolio, including Whole Foods Market and Amazon Fresh, remains a key area of investment.
