AI Daily: Alphabet’s AI lab debuts new models for robotics

Catch up on the top artificial intelligence news and commentary by Wall Street analysts on publicly traded companies in the space with this daily recap compiled by The Fly:

AI MODELS FOR ROBOTICS: Alphabet’s (GOOGL) artificial intelligence lab is debuting two new models focused on robotics, which will help developers train robots to respond to unfamiliar scenarios — a longstanding challenge in the field, Bloomberg’s Julia Love and Davey Alba (META), Tesla (TSLA) and Microsoft (MSFT)-backed OpenAI have ramped up their work on robotics, and startups are in talks to raise funding at sky-high valuations.

ACCIO SEARCH ENGINE: Alibaba (BABA) announced that its artificial intelligence-driven business-to-business search engine, Accio, has surpassed 1M users within five months of launch. To further empower small and medium-sized enterprises, two new features-Business Research and Deep Search-are now available, offering AI-driven solutions for market entry and global sourcing.

NEW TOOLS: Microsoft-backed OpenAI announced it is releasing the first set of building blocks that will help developers and enterprises build useful and reliable agents. “We view agents as systems that independently accomplish tasks on behalf of users,” the company said. “Over the past year, we’ve introduced new model capabilities-such as advanced reasoning, multimodal interactions, and new safety techniques-that have laid the foundation for our models to handle the complex, multi-step tasks required to build agents. However, customers have shared that turning these capabilities into production-ready agents can be challenging, often requiring extensive prompt iteration and custom orchestration logic without sufficient visibility or built-in support.”

The ChatGPT maker said it is launching a new set of APIs and tools specifically designed to simplify the development of agentic applications: The new Responses API, combining the simplicity of the Chat Completions API with the tool use capabilities of the Assistants API for building agents; Built-in tools including web search, file search, and computer use; the new Agents SDK to orchestrate single-agent and multi-agent workflows, and; integrated observability tools to trace and inspect agent workflow execution. “These new tools streamline core agent logic, orchestration, and interactions, making it significantly easier for developers to get started with building agents,” OpenAI added. “Over the coming weeks and months, we plan to release additional tools and capabilities to further simplify and accelerate building agentic applications on our platform.”

BUY INNVENTURE: Northland initiated coverage of Innventure (INV) with an Outperform rating and $12 price target. The firm estimates the 2 phase Direct Liquid Cooling market will begin to cannibalize the 1 phase Direct Liquid Cooling market in calendar year 2029 and notes that Accelsius is one of two stand-alone players providing a next gen 2-phase DLC solution for GenAI servers. Northland expects the 2PDLC market to be competitive, but for Innventure’s Accelsius to be able to garner some large data center customers that will drive Accelsius share sustainably in the 10% range, the firm tells investors.
