Activist investor Elliot Investment Management has built up a stake of more than $2.5B in Phillips 66 (PSX) and plans to push the company to consider operational changes, Lauren Thomas of The Wall Street Journal reports, citing people familiar with the matter. Elliott intends to seek changes to simplify Phillips 66, including pushing the company to sell or spin off its midstream business, the Journal’s sources added.
