Positive Outlook on Laureate Education: Strong Core Guidance and Growth in Peru Drive Buy Rating Despite FX Challenges in Mexico

BMO Capital analyst Jeffrey Silber maintained a Buy rating on Laureate Education (LAURResearch Report) on February 21 and set a price target of $23.00.

Jeffrey Silber’s rating is based on a comprehensive analysis of Laureate Education’s recent performance and future outlook. The company reported a slight exceedance in adjusted EBITDA, largely due to better-than-expected secondary starts. This performance aligns with a solid core 2025 guidance, although it was affected by factors such as foreign exchange headwinds and campus consolidations in Mexico.
Peru’s promising growth trajectory, driven by macroeconomic recovery and increased demand for online education, significantly contributes to the optimistic outlook. Despite a conservative forecast for Mexico, due to indirect impacts from reduced foreign investments, the region is expected to continue margin expansion. The management’s introduction of an adjusted EPS metric and the adjustment of estimates, considering the Mexican foreign exchange challenges, supports the increased target price, providing a strong basis for the Buy rating.

Based on the recent corporate insider activity of 37 insiders, corporate insider sentiment is negative on the stock. This means that over the past quarter there has been an increase of insiders selling their shares of LAUR in relation to earlier this year.
