Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT) has announced a major change in the design of Windows keyboards after several decades. The company’s next-generation models will feature a “Copilot key” that will directly launch its artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot. Before this, MSFT had added a Windows/Start key in 1994.

The key is expected to replace the longstanding menu key (application key) on most keyboards, while on some, it will be switched with the right-hand Control Alt key. However, placement may vary depending on the original equipment manufacturer and individual market specifications. In areas where Copilot is not yet operational, the new key will effectively redirect users to the Windows Search tool.
The company plans to launch the new models at the International Consumer Electronics Show to be held in Las Vegas next week. Furthermore, shipping of new personal computers or laptops with this new keyboard will begin in February.
Is Microsoft a Buy, Sell, or Hold?
Microsoft expects to remain strategically focused on AI, with a commitment to integrating its advanced capabilities into its core offerings. The Copilot key empowers users as a smart assistant, enabling web and local content search in addition to providing enhanced PC feature access. Given the AI craze globally, the new key introduction is expected to lift PC sales this year, thereby supporting MSFT’s bottom line.
