Lyft Accused of Anti-Semitic Bias, Again

Lyft (LYFT) has been accused of anti-semitism again. The ride-share company received similar complaints before, and is starting the new year with yet another incident. This time, X user Ken Book wrote that Lyft has banned his wife’s account for reporting an anti-semitic driver. His wife complained that the driver’s car sported a bumper sticker saying “free Palestine” in Arabic, accompanied by a map showing the entire state of Israel in the colors of the Palestinian flag. That graphic is widely understood as a statement of the wish to eradicate Israel of all Jewish people.

Lyft’s decision to ban his wife’s account in response to her complain is shocking to many. According to Lyft’s Anti-discrimination policy, “Discrimination against riders or drivers isn’t tolerated on the Lyft platform.”

Lyft and Prior Anti-Semitic Incidents

Lyft has a history of anti-Semitic incidents. In October 2023, a Lyft driver struck a passenger in the face at San Francisco International Airport after hearing he was an Israeli Jew. That driver was charged with a federal hate crime, and Lyft eventually removed the driver from its rideshare service.

Then, in January 2024, police arrested a Lyft driver in the Washington, DC area. The driver had punched a recognizably Jewish passenger several times, after he left the vehicle. Lyft ultimately fired that driver.

TipRanks has requested a comment from Lyft regarding the current incident. Updates will be made to this article when and if Lyft responds.
