Kohl’s (KSS) stock crashed today after the retailer’s Q4 2024 earnings report was released. The report started with adjusted earnings per share of 95 cents, which beat Wall Street’s estimate of 72 cents. However, adjusted EPS dropped 43.1% year-over-year from $1.67. 2024 Adjusted EPS of $1.50 also beat estimates of $1.32 but fell 47.4% from the $2.85 reported in 2023.

Unfortunately for KSS investors, the department store operator reported revenue of $5.18 billion, below analysts’ estimate of $5.19 billion for the quarter. This was also down 9.4% year-over-year compared to revenue of $5.71 billion. Full-year revenue of $15.38 billion missed estimates of $15.57 billion and dropped 7.2% compared to $16.57 billion in 2023.

Kohl’s investors weren’t happy about those mixed results, with the stock down 16.43% in pre-market trading. That came after a 1.31% drop yesterday, built on its year-to-date decrease of 14.17%, and extended a 52-week loss of 47.43%.

Kohl’s 2025 Guidance Update

Kohl’s provided investors with its 2025 guidance in its latest earnings report. The company expects diluted EPS to range from 10 cents to 60 cents while revenue will fall between 5% and 7% compared to 2024. Adding to this is an expected comparable sales decline of 4% to 6% while capital expenditures will come in between $400 million and $425 million.

Is KSS Stock a Buy, Sell, or Hold?

Turning to Wall Street, the analysts’ consensus rating for Kohl’s is Moderate Sell based on three Hold and four Sell ratings over the last three months. With that comes an average price target of $11.18, a high of $13, and a low of $10. This represents a potential 7.22% downside for KSS stock. These ratings and price targets will likely change as analysts update their coverage after today’s earnings.
