Everything is bigger in Texas—including Bitcoin celebrations. On March 13, cryptocurrency exchange Gemini set a new Guinness World Record by launching 1,000 drones into the sky over Austin. According to Cointelegraph, this was the largest-ever aerial display of a currency symbol.
The drones arranged into a massive glowing Bitcoin ₿, followed by the words “Go where dollars won’t,” a not-so-subtle jab at traditional finance. The event marked the celebration of the U.S. Strategic Bitcoin Reserve, an initiative aimed at strengthening Bitcoin’s role in national reserves.
Bitcoin’s Logo Has Evolved Over Time
Bitcoin’s ₿ wasn’t always the bold orange icon we recognize today. The original design by Satoshi Nakamoto in 2010 was a simple gold coin with “BC” on it. Over time, the Bitcoin community refined it, leading to today’s tilted orange version created by a user named bitboy (not to be confused with the YouTuber).
From a forum suggestion to lighting up the Texas sky, Bitcoin has come a long way. At the time of writing, Bitcoin is sitting at $84,830.34.
