Ford (NYSE:F) F-250 Super Duty Takes a Big Win in Value

Story Highlights

Ford picks up some wins for a good value, and also finds the Pinto overshadowed by a new car.

While the idea of finding a value in a pickup any more can be a tougher haul than anything the truck itself might tow, legacy automaker Ford (F) may have done just that. It took home a familiar award from Vincentric, as its F-250 Super Duty was declared the Best Value in America. The news fell on deaf ears with investors, though, as shares slipped fractionally in Tuesday afternoon’s trading.

Ford managed to take home the 2023 award for Best Value in America from Vincentric, and now, with 2025, it is repeating the honor. Landing such an award comes with several criteria considered, including maintenance costs, repair bills, and the overall cost of owning such a vehicle. There were four vehicles vying for the title, reports noted, and the F-250 Super Duty managed to win.

Better yet, it was not alone; the Ford Maverick Hybrid managed to take home a best value award as well in the small / mid-sized pickup field as well. The response from Ford, via senior brand manager for Ford Pro Steven Lee, noted that the award confirmed what customers already knew: “…they’re getting the exceptional value and dependability they need.”

The Pinto Suddenly Does Not Look So Bad

One of the most maligned cars ever to exist—and not without reason—was the Ford Pinto. But a new report suggests a more current vehicle, the Tesla (TSLA) Cybertruck, may find itself on the list as well. And at a lower slot than even the Pinto.

The reports noted that, out of 34,000 Cybertrucks on the road, five were involved in a fire fatality. That means a rate of 14.5 per 100,000 units. The Pinto, meanwhile, had 27 reported fatalities. That gave it a failure rate of 0.85 per 100,000 units. This makes, by one scale, the Cybertruck more dangerous than the Ford Pinto, which is exactly the kind of list no one wants to be on. Not even Ford.
