Elon Musk’s xAI Launches Grok to Compete with GPT Models

Story Highlights

Elon Musk’s xAI revealed its first AI chatbot, Grok, over the weekend. The new AI chatbot is positioned to rival other bots, including ChatGPT, Bard, and others.

Billionaire Elon Musk’s AI (artificial intelligence) company, xAI, launched its first prototype of a generative AI-based bot called Grok. The large Language Model (LLM)-based software is presently available to a select few users as part of the initial testing phase. Grok will eventually be available to the larger public on Musk’s social media platform X, with the premium service costing $16 per month. Musk’s Grok will compete with rivals like ChatGPT, Anthropic, Inflection, and others.

xAI unveiled Grok on its website on Saturday, while Musk tweeted about the new chatbot on Sunday. The Tesla (NASDAQ:TSLA) CEO also compared Grok’s performance with other bots, and he believes that Grok was superior to its peers on several fronts. Musk stated that Grok will leverage the extensive dataset and real-time information accessible on X, which will give it an edge over others. Moreover, Grok can also be of help to coders and software makers in creating AI tools. xAI quipped that Grok possesses both a sense of humor and the kind of wit to answer “juicy questions” that other bots may not be trained to handle.

xAI was started in July this year to focus on AI products and has employed ex-employees from Microsoft’s (NASDAQ:MSFT)-backed OpenAI and Google’s (NASDAQ:GOOGL) DeepMind, among others.
