Dell Technologies (DELL) founder and CEO Michael Dell says the long awaited refresh cycle in personal computers (PCs) is underway.
Speaking on CNBC, Dell said new technologies are driving consumers and businesses to upgrade their PCs. He also said that the pending “end of life” for Windows 10 should also give PC sales a boost in coming quarters. “It’s sort of undeniable now that the refresh is starting,” said Dell.
Analysts and investors have grown skeptical waiting for a PC refresh cycle that was supposed to materialize with the advent of artificial intelligence (AI) enabled computers but has been slow to takeoff. But Dell said in the interview that he’s confident the new capabilities found in AI PCs will help to lift sales moving forward.
Nvidia Partnership
Dell gave the interview from Nvidia’s (NVDA) annual GTC developer conference. Dell is partnering with Nvidia, whose microchips can be found in Dell computers. Additionally, Dell makes the servers companies use to run Nvidia’s chips that power and train AI models and applications.
Dell stressed that Microsoft will soon stop supporting its Windows 10 program, a development that will force many computers to be replaced. That would be good news for Dell Technologies, whose PC sales have lagged Wall Street’s targets in recent quarters even as its server sales have accelerated.
DELL stock has declined 13% so far in 2025.
