Chinese AI startup DeepSeek is providing huge discounts on its application programming interface (API) during off-peak hours to manage a spike in demand for its AI models. Effective Wednesday, the DeepSeek V3 model will be available at a 50% discount between 12:30 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. Beijing time, while the R1 model will see a 75% price reduction. With this move, the company aims to distribute demand more evenly throughout the day, ensuring smoother service for all users.
This strategic move comes as DeepSeek sees a surge in users and developers. Notably, prominent companies like Tencent Holdings (TCEHY) and Perplexity AI, along with various Chinese government entities, including departments within the Hong Kong government, have adopted DeepSeek’s technology.
By offering significant cost savings, DeepSeek can make its AI models more accessible and affordable, making them more attractive to a wider audience.
DeepSeek’s Presence Continues to Widen
In late January, DeepSeek disrupted the AI industry with its powerful, cost-effective AI model. Since then, several companies have jumped on board to integrate DeepSeek’s AI into their products, enhancing their offerings.
Interestingly, the company’s AI models will now be used in various home appliances, such as TVs, fridges, and robot vacuum cleaners. Companies like Haier, Hisense, and TCL Electronics have disclosed that their products will feature DeepSeek’s AI models, to improve their functionality.
In another major update, DeepSeek is speeding up the launch of its new AI model, R2. This model is set to outperform its predecessor R1 and show improvements in coding and reasoning capabilities across multiple languages.
While DeepSeek is facing troubles in some countries, these expansion moves keep it well-poised for growth. Also, the company remains focused on identifying new opportunities and bolster its presence in the AI market.
