Southern Co Addresses Plant Vogtle Unit 4 Vibrations

Southern Co (SO) has released an update.

Georgia Power announced that vibrations in the cooling system piping at Plant Vogtle Unit 4, similar to those previously encountered at other units, have been remediated. This has led to a revised in-service date projection for the second quarter of 2024. The delay is not expected to impact the total project capital cost forecast, but any further delays could incur additional costs. The company’s earnings could also be negatively impacted if the unit is not operational by the end of March 2024. The progression towards the new service date is contingent on the remaining start-up and pre-operational testing, which may face further challenges and potential delays.
