Rio Tinto announces a pioneering step in green technology by installing carbon-free aluminium smelting cells at its Arvida smelter in Québec, Canada. This move, using the ELYSIS technology, represents a joint venture with the Government of Québec and promises to produce aluminium without direct greenhouse gas emissions. Slated to begin production by 2027, the facility aligns with Rio Tinto’s strategy to decarbonize and is expected to significantly bolster its low-carbon aluminium operations in North America.
