U.S. lawmakers are considering banning DeepSeek from being used on government devices. This bill has bipartisan support with Illinois Republican Darin LaHood and New Jersey Democrat Josh Gottheimer backing it. The ban is being presented alongside concerns the Chinese government can see DeepSeek user data.

This bill would only ban the use of the DeepSeek artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot on government devices, leaving it available for private citizens. However, this is the same way the TikTok ban started, which eventually spread to a complete ban. TikTok parent company ByteDance is still trying to avoid this by selling the business.
LaHood and Gottheimer are top representatives on the House Select Committee on Intelligence. The two decided to introduce the DeepSeek ban bill following an analysis of the AI by Feroot Security CEO Ivan Tsarynny. He said there’s no denying U.S. user data is being sent to China. In response, LaHood said “Under no circumstances can we allow a CCP company to obtain sensitive government or personal data.”
U.S. Joins Growing DeepSeek Bans
The U.S. isn’t the only country banning the use of DeepSeek on government devices. Both Taiwan and Australia have done the same. Italy took it one step further with a complete ban of the app in the country. The U.S. Navy and NASA also banned employees from using the app and Texas banned it on government devices.

With DeepSeek facing a ban in the U.S., investors will be better off betting on domestic AI companies. Nvidia (NVDA), Alphabet (GOOGL), Microsoft (MSFT), and Amazon (AMZN) are all solid AI companies to consider taking stakes in. Each has Strong Buy ratings and upside potential in the double digits.
