A Big Day for Ford (NYSE:F) Electrics

Story Highlights

Ford’s electric ambitions pick up, with the police testing Mach-E Mustangs and the Ford Capri ads getting an electric remake.

Granted, legacy automaker Ford (F) has had to back-burner its green ambitions, at least for a while while the market shifts, it is still making strides therein. In fact, two pieces of news came out to day around Ford’s electric efforts. This gave Ford a quiet leg up in the market, as shares rose fractionally as a result.

Stay Ahead of the Market:

First, we had already heard about the Michigan State Police’s plans to bring in Mustang Mach-E electric vehicles to their operations. But the Detroit Free Press took that one step farther today, noting that the staties had started up testing of same. They have put the electric vehicles in their own special unit, where they will be evaluated, and the results of that evaluation made public.

Ford has been offering up police vehicles for decades. It first started offering vehicles back in the early 1900s, to the point where the Oakland, California police force was so impressed it declared Ford the standard for all its light cars. It has also used police appraisals of said vehicles to improve future models. The report even noted that the Mach-E Police Pilot program has been in place since 2022’s model years emerged, so we are likely to see improvement come out of that as well.

Remade Ads

Then, Ford turned to a bit of its advertising past to launch its future, noted a report from Campaign. Ford turned to the ad agency that came up with the ads for its original gas-powered Capri—Wieden & Kennedy London—to basically remake the ad for its new electric Capri.

The new ad is almost the same as the old one, except the car has changed. Based on YouTube video of the commercial in question, even the voice-over sounds like the original, complete with that muffled sound of audio released before 1990. The ad seems to be focused primarily on Europe, reports note, which is not surprising given the state of their electric car market. But with panthers, lightning storms, and a ski chase, it is clear they went for action to promote this new car.
