A decade ago, Netflix (NFLX) made headlines after unveiling one of America’s most generous parental-leave benefits, pledging to give new parents unlimited time off their child’s first year, Jessica Toonkel of The Wall Street Journal reports. The policy was in line with a core company value, but more staffers than expected took full advantage of the benefit and the company found it unsustainable. Over the past few years, Netflix has walked back the leave policy and taking more than six months of leave is now understood to be an unwise career move.
